Rapid Industrialization, heightened consumerism and unrestrained technologies are causing environmental degradation on an enormous scale. Indeed, we are not only altering the climate and radically undermining life, but we are also triggering a mass extinction of species. What will future generation say of this diminished legacy of life? What can world religion contribute?

Scholars recognize, that religious beliefs have shaped views of nature and attitude and perception towards environment.

Economic growth and energy creation is very much needed to overcome poverty and improve standards of living. However, the external cost of the environmental damage and human health problems are rarely factored in to such growth. “Progress” has had a price for people and the planet.

Religious scriptures have sufficient materials to build awareness to the people to balance economical development and environmental protection,

“You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you. (Nehemiah 9:6)
